Dear colleagues,
It is a great honour and a genuine pleasure to welcome you to the University of Vigo on the occasion of the 79th session of the Société Internationale Fernand de Visscher pour l’Histoire des Droits de l’Antiquité (SIHDA), which will take place from 1 to 5 September. On behalf of the organising team, I would like to sincerely thank you for your participation in this new chapter in the history of our Society.
Founded in Belgium, the Société Fernand de Visscher has, over the years, established itself as an international point of reference for academic dialogue on the study of ancient law, bringing together scholars from diverse traditions and backgrounds. The Vigo session fully reflects this spirit of openness, cooperation, and scholarly exchange.
The theme of this edition, Women in the Law of Antiquity, invites a reconsideration of the legal status, roles, and agency of women within the legal systems of Antiquity. In addition, this session will benefit from the participation of specialists in law and in the history of Antiquity, whose contributions will further enrich the interdisciplinary approach that characterises SIHDA.
Located on the Atlantic coast, Vigo offers an ideal setting for academic reflection and intellectual exchange. We are confident that the University of Vigo will provide a stimulating environment, both scientifically and personally.
Looking forward to welcoming you very soon, please accept my warmest regards.
